    Personality:

Cruella is a woman who quite literally cares about absolutely nothing in life other than getting what she wants. From husbands to blood diamonds, she has no qualms about admitting her wants and her methods for getting them. She's interestingly enough, a very open person who won't pretend to be anything other than what she is. When she does lie, it's usually flimsy, and when she's busted she freely admits it. She admits aloud that she's a pretty terrible person and isn't unaware at all. She's very greedy in the sense that she wants things like fur coats and jewelry, and she doesn't care who or what she has to hurt to get them.

And so, we have to wonder - what motivates Cruella?

Well, chiefly, things. When she was told by the Dark One that if she helped him, she could gain her happy ending, whatever that was, she helped only because of that prospect. This woman is motivated by one thing, and one thing only: What she gets for herself. Who's going to give her a means to an end when it comes to needing fresh fur for a new coat? She marries for wealth, marries to achieve status and has no qualms about letting men take the fall for her, go to jail for her. She killed her father simply because she could. She killed two step-fathers for the same reason. Cruella doesn't always need motivation. Just a touch of boredom and a good dose of poison - or a gun. But as mentioned, when motivation is necessary, promising her something that she wants is a good way to get her on your side.

    A murderer most foul.

There's no two ways around it, Cruella de Vil's happy ending, the one she was so desperate to get back, is to be able to murder. And, it isn't particularly that she needs to kill, just that she likes having the option. If someone annoys her or grates a particular nerve, she wants to be able to get rid of the problem. It's why she killed her mother in the end - a woman she felt kept her from enjoying life. Because the ability to kill any living thing was taken away from her (though she does still have ways to get animals to sacrifice for coats, which will be explained in the powers section), Cruella began getting men to do stupid things for her through seduction and manipulation. She married rich, not caring how the wealth was made, even if it might have been embezzlement. When one husband was finally caught by police, she most certainly didn't care and didn't stick around to see him through it. She simply took off and left him to his own devices. So, she may not be able to actively kill a man, but she's still ruined plenty of lives.

    Defining character traits.

Cruella also has a knack for being able to turn on false charm. She flirts, she sasses, even with people like David Nolan. She's absolutely shameless when it comes to doing what she thinks needs to be done. Hand in hand with being glib, she's a master manipulator. This happens even before she gains the ability to control animals and it's simply personified when she does. She managed to convince a man who didn't even know her that she was a prisoner, got him to give her diamonds their first night out together, and by the end of it all, had no problems with attempting to take his life when he was no longer useful. And, while this might not be the most compelling part of her, Cruella is a sloppy drunk. Oh, she can appear to be refined, but more often than not she reeks of gin, doesn't have any qualms about drinking and driving, and certainly takes no issue with being reckless and has little self-control.

And yet she's able to let loose and seem normal.

Cruella does very much enjoy the company of people she sees as fun: people willing to drink gin and dance with her all night. She'll have fun, she'll play Angry Birds on her phone, she'll eat greasy fast food, she'll laugh and flirt and be absolutely delightful (though always with a side of snark) as long as the urge to be engaged is there. She needs loud and bright and exciting things, getting bored very easily. She found friendship in Ursula somehow after they reunited, and they'd been close in the Enchanted Forest (Cruella was even somewhat loyal to her), but as soon as the fun was over and Ursula abandoned Cruella in favor of going home, she was labeled a rat and traitor. In essence, Cruella was done with Ursula as soon as the she wasn't able to satisfy her anymore.

Powers/Abilities: Cruella does have a power to be stripped away and earned back - the ability to control any animal (not humans). She commanded her mother's beloved dalmatians to tear her apart while still alive. It's in this manner that she was able to get her fur coats even after it was written that she could never kill another living creature again. That particular rule didn't preclude her from using her magic to convince animals to take their own lives. Jump in front of traffic, eat something poisonous, etc. She'll want that power back and hopefully get it, and then she'll want to try and get her ability to kill on a whim back. It is in everyone's best interest that the Agents (or the Two, or anyone) never, ever, give her the happy ending unless for a specific and hopefully brief reason.

[There's no end to the boredom in this dreadfully repetitive place. If she's going to have to pay for all of her sins, she'll be here to no end, and that fills her with absolute disgust as she prowls the city proper. And without her magic, the only thing she had left, she's certainly not pleased at all. Damn that author straight to hell, and the rest of them with it. Though, maybe that's where she is now. Hell dressed up as some sort of pleasantry.

As she steps off of the sidewalk, a rather large man steps right in front of her and she immediately pushes away.]

Watch where you're going you giant oaf of a man! Just because you can't see your own feet doesn't mean others aren't there. You wouldn't want to run into someone who might find a way to be sure you never take another step again.

[She sincerely can't find it in her to care that she's building up more debt to pay. She's simply upset and in need of something. She realizes precisely what that something is when she finds a bar: Gin. She needs gin. Better yet, she needs someone to buy it for her as she walks inside, smiling in her black dress. It's predatory; who can she find to leech liquor off of all night? When she finds a man who looks like he might be loose enough, she makes her way to him.]

Well, hello, darling. You know, I've had quite the terrible time understanding this whole...drama of a place. I was hoping, if it's not too much trouble, to be your drinking companion for the evening? I'm quite entertaining, I promise.

[She smiles, and when he orders 'a drink for the lady,' Cruella beams. The charm is still fully in tact, it seems, and she settles in with a gin martini, listening to his boring stories while thinking about different ways to make him shut up. If only she could.]

The Savior is here. Oh, when Cruella realizes she can't help but laugh. And then she finds out Regina is loitering around somewhere as well, and that's perfect. But the absolute cherry on top is neither of them knowing anything about her. As far as either of them are concerned, they both saw a poor woman in desperate need of a happy ending returned, a villain who deserved a chance at redemption. It's truly better than anything she could have hoped for, and she's absolutely thrilled to know more than either of them. That little brat is here too, but he's the least of her problems. Honestly, there's no Isaac here to write her happy ending, but what she has now is even better.

What if she becomes friends with Regina? With Emma? The idea makes her laugh outright as she walks through the temple, causing stares that she's hardly paying attention to.

You see, darlings, all I've ever wanted is a chance to be happy again.

Cruella would earn herself pity, understanding, even acceptance from the Evil Queen herself who went through quite the transformation. Little do they know her happiness is being able to squeeze the life out of a man, to poison every last drop of people who bore her, but all revelations in good time. Like the fact that she knows precisely what the Dark One's holding over Regina's head. It makes her laugh again. God, this whole thing is going to blow up soon in Storybrooke, but here, Cruella is biding her time. For all any of them know, she's trying her damndest to be a good person. And, well, perhaps she is for now. She wants the only good thing the author ever gave her back. And so, she'll do whatever it takes, even if that means playing on the hero side of the table. It's temporary, she tells herself. Once she gets her magic again, she'll figure out some other way out that doesn't involve having to do things like volunteer and treat children with kindness.

That's asking a bit too much of her, long term.
